The availability requirements of the electricity distribution network are constantly increasing, and the maximum times of power outages are defined in the security of supply requirements. Power outages cause increasing costs for companies, for example in the form of customer compensation.

Therefore, increasing intelligence, remote operation, fault detection and protection of electricity networks is even more profitable. Smart compact secondary substations (CSS) play a key role in converting electricity from medium voltage to low voltage as well as improving the intelligence and reliability of the network and minimizing the effects of power outages.

Ensto’s smart compact secondary substation i1000 and switching station EA6 offer the best technical solutions for modern power grids with enhanced intelligence, remote control, fault detection and protection. The highly secure smart CSS with a universal product platform is delivered to the customer as a turnkey service, from design to initial on-site testing. Smart CSSs are easily adapted to customers' needs both in terms of space and technology and are ready also for distributed energy and industry needs. 

Safety Given Top Priority

The smart CCS is equipped with an arc pressure relief duct that safely channels expelled gases through a roof panel in a controlled manner. This regulated pressure release minimizes the damage to the substation and ensures that any arc fault does not pose a threat to the operator or the public in the event of a fault. The substation also features robust lockout and access control monitoring, along with other indicators available integrated into the SCADA system. Operator safety is further improved with automatic LED lighting inside the substations.

Designed for Demanding Climate Conditions 

Smart CSS has a mechanically extremely durable and strong appearance. Designed to stand wind loads up to 1640N/m2. CSS products have a dust ingress protected and thermal insulated IP55 rated section for automation, remote-control and auxiliary power systems. This ensures reliable operation of the equipment in challenging Nordic climatic conditions.

Turnkey Delivery and Easy Commissioning

Smart CSS solutions can be designed fully according to the customer’s requirements. They can be equipped with advanced, intelligent security and protection systems that are rigorously tested during the factory testing phase.  Remote control and monitoring signals can also be verified directly from the factory, which ensures seamless integration into the customer's SCADA system. In addition, we offer consulting services (linkki) to determine optimal security settings.
 

As part of the smart CSS solution concept, we offer onsite primary-side fault simulation tests with testing trailer to ensure the correct operation of complex protection schemes. The trailer simulates real-life fault situations in a controlled and safe manner.
