Monitoring and Control

Ensto's monitoring and control solutions are designed to perform remote and local MV breaking device monitoring and control. Combined with MV/LV transformer station or remote-controlled overhead switches, these devices offer underground cable and overhead line networks telecontrol and fault detection tailored to the customer’s needs.

Ensto has over 30 years’ expertise in monitoring and control. Our first monitoring and control cabinet was developed in 1987 for the French market and for French-speaking African countries. Over the years, this cabinet has evolved in response to demand from other export markets and for both underground and overhead networks.

Today our Ensto E-RTU cabinet meets the requirements of the majority of international standards, it offers greater flexibility and operating safety and is more efficient in terms of implementation.

Modular and Adaptable Solutions

Switchgear Controllers

Ensto switchgear controllers, smart equipment for MV/LV distribution substations, as well as MV overhead lines. These solutions allow MV ring main unit to 8 channels or overhead switches to be controlled, current to be measured and faults to be detected (power surges and earth faults) for networks with impedance-earthed neutral point treatment or a neutral earthing compensator.

Controller can be operated locally or remotely via a SCADA system using the types of communication protocols set out in this document, by means of a cyber-secure VPN tunnel. Ensto switchgear controllers have been developed to meet the new requirements of smart grids.

Main benefits

  • Compliance with the key communication standards IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, DNP3 IP, communication redundancy
  • Communication via 3G / 4G / digital radio modules / any IP communication media with Ethernet or serial connection (RS232)
  • Simultaneous cabinet configuration and communication using three independent Ethernet ports
  • Cybersecurity: Protection against cyberattacks with the aid of secure communication, secure tunnels (VPN, OpenVPN and IPSec) and secure hardware design
  • Reduced duration of power cuts (SAIDI)
  • Easy to upgrade: addition of extra functions
  • Flexible updates in a secure environment
  • Retrofit: Possibility of upgrading a previous generation ITI2012 cabinet (underground or overhead) by simply replacing the previous generation CPU board with the CPU2020 board (quotation provided for all requests)
  • Client update by staff or by Ensto Novexia’s Service team (based on service quotation

Distributed Generation Controllers

Distributed generation controller application

The distributed generation controllers (D.E.I.E.) is a control/monitoring unit that manages the remote control and monitoring of decentralised generating installations.

The product is installed in MV distribution substations. It encompasses all the functionalities necessary for managing decentralized production like Wind mills, Photovoltaic generation, Micro generation, Gas turbine, Hydraulic generation.

The DEIE cabinet assists in the remote control and monitoring of decentralized production installations. Various communication media with the control station are available to meet all needs (RTC, RADIO, or IP) according to HNZ and IEC104 protocols.

Fault Detection

Fault detection LYNX 4400

Ensto’s LYNX 4425 is a current fault detector for medium voltage underground cable networks of 10 to 24 kV operating with an impedance-earthed or compensated neutral system.

Its main function is to make the electricity distribution networks more efficient. When the faults are detected and located quickly, a lot of time and money are saved, and the number and the duration of power outages can be minimized.

Accurate, reliable fault detection and location with Ensto LYNX:

  • Easy to install stand-alone device.
  • Very reliable and accurate fault detection.
  • Long lifetime with supercapacitor.
