Ensto continues its strategic acquisitions in the DSO business.
Ensto has acquired a 55% stake in addition to its previous 20% stake in Finnish, privately owned Arcteq Relays Oy (Arcteq). Arcteq specializes in protection relays and arc flash protection systems to protect electricity distribution networks. 25% of the company’s shares continues to belong to its current owners. The contract was signed on December 20, 2021. The acquisition is perfectly in line with Ensto’s growth strategy, and it follows the recent acquisitions of Renley Ltd in Ireland, Röhrbacher Teknik GmbH in Austria and Protrol AB in Sweden. It is a significant step in implementing Ensto’s vision to become a leading expert for Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs). It strengthens Ensto's position as a supplier and expert of new smart technologies for electricity distribution networks.
Arcteq employs 40 people at its headquarters in Vaasa and has a turnover of ca 8 million euros. Arcteq's experts have a strong know-how in protection relay technology and thorough knowledge of the electricity distribution market. Arcteq’s products are crucial in controlling reliability of electricity networks, which is coming more and more important to our DSO customers.
Arcteq designs, produces, and sells protection relays, arc flash protection systems, and measuring and monitoring equipment. It provides a full range of services to its customers through its skilled personnel and global network of partners. The services include power system protection training courses, power system simulations, short-circuit analysis, protection setting calculations and arc flash hazard calculations.
“I am very happy to welcome Arcteq’s great know-how and technology of protection relays, and expertise of protection architecture of medium-voltage distribution networks to our company. Together with its personnel we are strengthening our expertise and expanding our current product portfolio into new smart technologies to support our growth towards an intelligent and digitalizing world," says Hannu Keinänen, President and CEO of Ensto Group.
Arcteq exports over 90% of its production around the world to more than 50 countries. Its customers are DSOs, traditional and renewable power generation, industrial, offshore, marine, and critical power users on six continents.
“Ensto has been on board with us as a co-owner since 2016, and this move is a natural step in our long-term business plan. The strategies of the companies are a perfect fit without any overlapping product offering. Ensto is a well-known Finnish family business with a world-class brand on the market of electrical systems and supplies. We are very pleased to join our forces with such a big industrial company, and we believe that with this combination we are able to serve our customers even better and grow faster," says Juha Arvola, Managing Director and one of the owners of Arcteq.
Juha Arvola continues as Managing Director of Arcteq Relays Oy. The parties will not disclose the details of this transaction.
