Human Rights at Ensto

Ensto is committed to upholding human rights and promoting sustainable development in all aspects of its operations. Our Code of Conduct serves as the guiding policy for both Ensto Group and its suppliers, outlining key expectations. We provide mandatory trainings to ensure that all employees and suppliers fully understand and adhere to these principles. By making the Code of Conduct publicly accessible on our website, we emphasize transparency and our commitment to responsible business practices.

Since 2013, Ensto has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, fully embracing its principles on human rights, environmental protection, labor standards, and anti-corruption. These values are deeply integrated into Ensto’s daily activities, driving sustainability at every level of our operations. Our long-term dedication to the UNGC demonstrates our continued effort to align business practices with global standards for responsible and ethical operations.

Human Rights Assessment

In early 2023, Ensto joined the six-month Business & Human Rights Accelerator program by the UN Global Compact. This initiative focused on business human rights responsibilities and helped us to establish a due diligence process. We assessed compliance within Ensto and our value chain, conducting evaluations at six key locations: Estonia, India, France, Ireland, Finland, and Norway. These assessments identified potential human rights risks, leading to the creation of Ensto's first Business and Human Rights Action Plan.

The SDGs Where We Make the Most Impact

Ensto has signed the United Nations (UN) Global Compact and is committed to the ten fundamental principles of the initiative and foster fair and sustainable business policies and practices. We have selected seven of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that Ensto has the most impact on.

5. Gender Equality

We are committed to increasing gender diversity throughout all levels of our company by developing metrics, knowledge, competences and processes.

7. Affordable and Clean Energy

We offer innovative and reliable, long life-cycle overhead lines, underground networks, network automation and new smart technology products and solutions for electricity distribution networks. We develop solutions for wind electricity production and develop micro-grid technology which enable integration of renewable energy sources to rural communities.

8. Decent Work and Economic Growth

Our business has a positive economic impact on communities through employment and taxes. We take care of our employees by developing a healthy and safe working environment. We manage human and labor rights risks in our own operations and in our supply chain. We work closely with our suppliers to increase quality and environmental awareness.

9. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Our own R&D, manufacturing and laboratories give us the expertise to continually innovate and serve our customers on an individual level. We work with our partners to research and develop new technologies.

12. Responsible Consumption and Production

We constantly try to minimize our waste generation and increase the recycling rate. We design our products taking material efficiency into account. We aim for high quality and to produce robust products with a long lifespan.

13. Climate Action

We aim to decrease our own energy consumption and lower our indirect emissions (e.g., from logistics). We aim to increase the environmental knowledge and competence of our own employees. We see that electricity, especially smart electricity solutions, plays important role when fossil fuels are replaced by renewable, carbon free electricity. Electricity is an enabler of modern life, modern societies, energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction.

16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

We are committed to responsible business practices and refrain from all forms of bribery, fraud, or corruption. This is described in our Code of Conduct, our key policy: and an essential part of our strategy
