These include reducing carbon emissions, comparing the environmental impacts of manufacturing and the supply chain, emissions until end-of-life and above all, transparency of environmental claims.
We are therefore now pleased to announce the first EPD for SLIW insulation piercing connectors (SLIW50 to SLIW59), showcasing their environmental impact from raw material extraction to the final disposal/recycling. Key data, covering 28 % raw material impacts, is directly sourced from the supply chain, which is a crucial step in sustainable product development. The EPD indicates that the carbon footprint (A1-A3, manufactured product ready to be installed) for an average 0,1 kg SLIW product corresponds to 0,75 kg CO2.
More information about SLIW’s EPD is available in the library of Hub, which is a global EPD program operator. The EPD can also be found on the SLIW product page on Ensto's web.
EPD remains valid for 5 years in both PDF and machine-readable format and other database interaction is currently being developed by EPD program operators to ensure fluent global access for all interest parties.
Environmental impact information allows easy comparison with similar products on the market and is increasingly important in sustainable decision-making. Originating from the construction industry, EPDs are crucial for environmentally conscious planning engineers who consider materials in their designs and for our customers looking for environmental advantage. The SLIW’s EPD positions us at the forefront, as no similar EPDs were found during the verification process.
The work continues by creating and publishing more EPDs using One Click LCA tool which is the world's leading life cycle assessment software.
