Ensto’s Petteri Pulkkinen, Head of Product Management, Overhead Lines tells, that the SDI82.2M20 composite insulator has a unique, extremely carefully designed neck structure.
– The conductor is easy to install through the insulator neck made of electrically insulating plastic. This reduces both the work phases required at the work site and the number of tools needed for installation.
Pulling wheels or helical ties are no longer needed in the installation as the conductor can be pulled directly through the insulator's plastic neck. The tightening of the conductor in the insulator is done quickly with a wing nut.
Self-cleaning Composite Material
The composite material of SDI82.2M20 is self-cleaning.
– It means that particulate matters such as pollen and air pollution do not stick on the insulator surface but are washed away with rain. Hence, the line post insulator properties do not subside, but the product lasts long in the grid ensuring the power quality and guaranteeing its uninterrupted supply,” Pulkkinen explains.
With more traditional materials, the impurities build up on the insulator over time, increasing the risk of short circuits and power outages.
