The park was built by the wind farm developer wpd Suomi. The seven-turbine power park, with a combined total output of 41.3 MW, now supplies electricity to the national transmission grid.
The wind farm’s 110/33kV primary substation consists of a capacitor bank with 110kV circuit breaker, self-use transformer, and a substation building including 36kV switchgear that has eleven bays. Main transformer provided by the customer has a rated power of 50/25/25 MVA.
Ensto Maviko has managed the entire construction and design of the primary substation starting from earthworks all the way up to final commissioning to meet the demanding requirements of wind farm operations. The concrete walls and roof of the substation building were unique to this project. The fast design and implementation are an example of Ensto Maviko’s flexibility and customer-oriented mindset.
Electrical Project Manager Romeo Xenos from wpd Suomi appreciates the successful collaboration: “This was the first time wpd worked with Ensto Maviko. We especially value the competency and fast problem solving they brought to the table. Now all seven N163 5.9 MW turbines are producing electricity to the national transmission grid.”
The primary substation investment is only part of a larger whole, but a very essential part. Ensto Maviko has constructed multiple substations for wind farms in Finland and has extensive expertise and practical experience in such projects.
Ensto Maviko’s Project Manager Teemu Vainionpää oversaw the construction of the substation for the Oulainen wind farm project, and he highlights the significance of the primary substation: “Substation is the heart of the whole wind farm. Without it, any wind or solar farm is useless. We want to meet customers' needs for a reliable and high-quality, but cost-effective turnkey primary substation solutions now and in the future.”
