Ensto has extended its laboratory in Porvoo, Finland, to invest in the growth of its electricity distribution business. The laboratory is impressive both in its size and expertise: it is one of the largest accredited electrical laboratories in Finland consisting of 1,500 m² with 350 m² of new space. There are 14 people working in the Porvoo laboratory with a wide testing experience.
The laboratory investment supports Ensto's mission to become the leading expert for distribution system operators (DSOs), as it increases our testing expertise and supply. In addition, Ensto plans to double its turnover by 2025, and to reach the target, more testing capacity is needed to meet growing international demand.
“In line with Ensto's strategy, the extended laboratory represents the engine of growth for us as it increases both our capacity and capabilities. The extension was much needed to be able to better serve our DSO customers with our expertise and solutions with sustainability and smart technologies at its core,” says Hannu Keinänen, President and CEO of Ensto Group.
The extended laboratory concentrates on testing underground cable networks' (UG) products, of which Ensto has wide experience and knowledge for decades. The new premises combined with the existing UG testing facilities include spaces for a variety of tests: heat cycle tests, robustness tests, salt and humidity fog tests, AC and DC voltage tests, partial discharge measurements in addition to lightning impulse tests. In addition, Ensto has testing facilities for overhead line networks' products in its premises.
“Having an own laboratory benefits us and our customers in several ways: it accelerates the testing processes and product development cycles, gives us independence in test scheduling, and develops our competences. With our own testing spaces and expertise, we are able to ensure reliable, high-quality products that are tested beyond standard requirements,“ summarizes Ensto's Laboratory Manager Janne Lappalainen.
In four years, Ensto has invested 1,4 M€ to the laboratory extensions.
