To ensure the growth, profitability and long-term development of Ensto, a new "Two businesses, two focuses" strategy was launched in the autumn 2020. Ensto was divided into two businesses: Ensto DSO and Ensto Building Systems.
Acquisitions and Divestments
In December 2020, Ensto acquired the entire share capital of Renley Ltd, an Irish manufacturer of low and medium voltage products and related services for local DSOs, to boost the growth in Ireland and the UK.
In June 2021 Ensto acquired the Austrian company Röhrbacher Technik GmbH, which specializes in trading electrotechnical, to expand its business in Austria.
In July 2021 Ensto made a strategic decision to focus on its electricity distribution business, aiming to become a leading expert for Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Along with this decision, Ensto Building Systems business was sold to Legrand, the global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures.
In December 2021 Ensto acquired the Swedish privately-owned Protrol AB, which specializes in electric power and automation technologies. Ensto continued its strategic acquisitions in the DSO business and acquired the Finnish, privately owned Arcteq Relays Oy. Arcteq specializes in protection relays and arc flash protection systems to protect electricity distribution networks. Both acquisitions are perfectly in line with Ensto’s growth strategy, and they strengthen Ensto's position as a supplier and expert of new smart technologies for electricity distribution networks.
In June 2022 Ensto decided to permanently leave Russia and sell its Russian company to local management due to the changed operating environment.
In 2023, Markku Moilanen was appointed Ensto's CEO and President. In July 2023, Ensto strengthened its capabilities in electricity distribution services and smart substations by acquiring the Finnish, privately owned Maviko Oy. The acqusition was perfectly in line with Ensto's growth strategy, and was in line with acqusitions made in 2021 focusing on the electricity distribution business.
Other Investments in Growth
Ensto continued to invest in growth by extending its laboratory in Porvoo, Finland and investing in machinery at Porvoo and Keila, Estonia plants. Indian plant was expanded by a 4,000-square-meter factory.
Today Ensto is an international family business and technology company, which enables green transition, reliable and safe supply of electricity by creating sustainable solutions for electricity distribution.
